What will this course cover?
This course is designed for any one (vets and nurses) who want to use ultrasound to answer urgent questions in their ill and emergency patients; no previous experience of ultrasound is required as this course starts from the very basics of ultrasound through to advanced practical procedures such as ultrasound-guided catheter placement.
This course will consist of a comprehensive theory online course to be completed prior to the one day practical course. On the practical training day you’ll benefit from innovative teaching methods including AR/VR technology and high fidelity physical phantom models to develop core scanning techniques. These are then applied in real-time on live dogs to simulate real patient scenarios. The day finishes with fun learning with the unique VetArtis POCUS escape room which will simulate the kind of cases that you will use your new POCUS skills on.
- Thoracic scanning – Focused cardiac scanning, pericardial effusions, lung scanning and thoracic scanning.
- POCUS in the abdomen – assessing the acute abdomen, fluid, pneumoperitoneum, ileum, GIT obstruction, pyometra, renal and urinary tract assessment, gall bladder emergencies and the halo sign.
- Practical skills for ultrasound-guided catheter placement, ultrasound-guided fluid sampling, pericardiocentesis.
- Evaluating the dyspnoeic patient – Is it congestive heart failure?
